Meet the Team – Alyssa Timmons, Event Services Manager
Alyssa Timmons, Event Services Manager
I worked my first event when I was 16 and was immediately hooked. It was my cousin’s wedding and I remember how rewarding it was to be able to create her vision into her real, dream wedding! I pursued an education in marketing and management at Abilene Christian University with the goal of becoming a full time event professional after graduation. I was able to gain experience throughout my time in college with several different venues and organizations.
After college, I wanted to experience an adventure, so I signed up to participate as a hospitality intern at Walt Disney World in Florida! I learned the importance of service and the importance of creating a lasting experience for my Guests, and also met my fiance there! After I finished my internship, I moved back to Lubbock to begin my full time career as an event professional – I have not looked back since them!
I have been with The Willows Event Center since 2018 and helped start it from the ground up. I have enjoyed meeting all of my clients and watching the Event Center grow into what it is today!
Where is the coolest place you have traveled?
I was able to travel to Kenya this past September and it was one of the most amazing trips I have ever taken! Our group traveled to an organization that starts churches all around Kenya, as well as has a few children’s homes. We were able to stay on campus of one of the children’s homes and met the most loving and fun kids. They were always singing, jumping rope, or hugging on our necks. We were also able to go on a safari while we were there and we saw elephants, hippos, giraffes, lions, and a leopard just a few feet away from us! It was definitively a trip of a lifetime!
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My absolute, all time favorite Disney movie is Tangled and it is partially because of the beautiful lantern scene. The idea from the floating lanterns was taken from Loi Krathong, a Thai celebration that happens on the first full moon on the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar. This amazing celebration, coupled with the fact that one of my very best friends from college is Thai, makes Thailand top of my list! I would love to be able to go over and spend time with her, as well as experience some of the amazing celebrations and the culture from the “Land of a Thousand Smiles.”
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I am getting to marry the love of my life! I met my fiance, Aaron, while doing my internship in Florida and he moved out to Texas to be with me just over two years ago. We were able to go on a Disney cruise this January with his family and he ended up asking me to marry him – it was pretty magical! We had planned a fun destination wedding with our loved ones this December, but with the Corona virus spreading uncertainty, we decided to pivot just a bit. We decided get married with just our immediate family this July at The Willows Event Center, then we will host a big celebration next year in Mexico on our one year anniversary. July could not come soon enough!
